To identify this thing called purpose is more important than you think. Purpose identifies the reason for our existence and drives our lives.

Purpose, a word that may appear in one’s life and summons pondering or maybe it is just a statement said with clarity. Some may know what it is, while others are yet to find out. The Oxford dictionary defines the word purpose as the reason for which something is done or created or for which something exists. Therefore, purpose powers our existence. Purpose answers why we were created. Purpose instructs our lives. As a creation, to know this thing called purpose is a must.

Wonders of Nature

Let’s now identify some creations that are living in their purpose. Trees, they are used for important gases such as oxygen and carbon dioxide. They are homes for the wild animals and other creatures. The wood from the trees are used to make even our very homes. Trees, also give us food to eat. YUM! They are also here for just the simple things, like having a place to rest in cool shade and relaxing breeze; we all know how hot the sun can be. Mountains, another created thing. They are created to do a few things, such as being a unique habitat for various animals and also vegetation which supports the biodiversity of the earth.

Do you know your purpose? If you know your purpose, are you operating in it like the trees and mountains are? If you do not know it, are you seeking to find it?

Like Jesus

Let’s go even deeper now; enough rambling about the wonders of nature. Did you know, even human beings were created with a purpose? A prime example is that of Jesus Christ. Jesus Christ, our lord and saviour, was given to the world by God to save us from the results of sin which is eternal death. Jesus knew this was his purpose was when he came and lived out that while he was walking the earth. He offered his body as a sacrificial lamb to atone for our sins. He died on the cross, rose from the grave and ascended to heaven. As he said in John 2:19; destroy this temple and I will raise it up again in three days (temple is a word commonly referred throughout the good book as the human body). Jesus lived in that specific purpose and was determined to do so despite the odds because he truly loves us.

Purpose fuels...

Let’s now take a moment and look at our own purpose in this life. The question is now posed, why am I created? What is the reason for my existence? What am I placed here to do? All of these questions I'm pretty sure have been asked by me and even you. The response to these questions is one of the most principal factors that fuel our energy to live. This was asserted by John Maxwell, one of the world's most influential leaders. He expressed that the two most important parts of a person’s life, is the day you were born and the day you find out why. I am convinced that this answer sets our pace, outlines our path and shapes our identity. It is a key driver to our life and must be placed at optimum priority.

What is the reason? Why am I created?

When you know the why, a different level will be unlocked. There is nothing that can stop you from achieving it. Nothing at all can hinder you from living in it. Obstacles or distractions will not keep you from it. There will be absolutely nothing that can stand in your way. It’s like a dog that sees its tail right in its reach and continues to chase after it. Like the dog, we believe there is still hope in achieving the goal even after being tired from multiple failed attempts. He may rests for a few minutes after failing to get his tail, but he won’t stay down.

Like the dog we should get up and start right over again. Jesus in his human nature felt a bit down as well; so much so he asked God if he is willing, he should take the cup away from him (Luke 22:42). Jesus, however, did not allow his moment of downheartedness to shift his focus from his purpose. He acknowledged that it is better for him to die for us, rather than for us to perish. Therefore, he continued through and gave himself to death for just a few days, so we can live for a whole eternity.

Here is the ultimate reason. This is the general "WHY".

Now simply put, we are created to worship, but not ourselves or other creations. We are created to worship God. Worship, this interesting term is explained by the Oxford dictionary as the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration for a deity. To worship is a desire placed in our very being, but unfortunately, we yield to present it to other things. Let us shift our hearts of worship and place it on God. This is our ultimate purpose. Every human being is created to worship God. So, for some of us that may not know what the specific thing is, let us dedicate all our talents, gifts, knowledge and strength to worship the Creator of all things and all humans. Wait! Don’t just stop there. Let us strive to obey his every command and live a life not for this world, but that which is pleasing to him. When we do these actions of worship, we will be able to identify our specific purpose on this earth. God has a beautiful plan for each of our lives that eyes haven’t see, ears haven’t hear and it has not even enter in the mind of men. God has a plan to prosper us; to give us hope and a future. Fortunately, he does not want to keep this plan a secret but it is available for you and can be accessed through a Romans 12:1-2 approach; through worship. We can know our specific purpose by living in our general purpose which is to worship God. For example, worshiping God as a diligent student may help you to realize that he wants you to worship him as a highly demanded doctor. Let us give it a try and unlock the greatness he has in store for us.

Are you going to live in your purpose?

Conclusively, purpose will motivate you to do better each day. It will give you a push that gets you so very far and cover great distance. It is now up to us to decide if we want to accept it and live a purposeful life. Here your ultimate purpose for existing was presented to you. Will you receive it and live an intentional life?
