Spirit of Excellence

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

Spirit and excellence what do these two words mean? I went ahead and searched for these terms in my Google search engine. Spirit is defined by Oxford dictionary as the vital principle or animating force within all living things. In addition, the dictionary says excellence is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good. Excellence is further explained as a talent or quality which is unusually good and so surpasses ordinary standards according to Wikipedia. Ha, yes I made a wiki reference LOL. Anyways, Spirit of excellence may therefore be defined as the vital principles within that drives one and allows them to perform spectacularly beyond measures at whatsoever he or she does. How can one attain this? To answer this question I looked to words that speak about excellence.

Let us together first bring it into context by defining our key terms using one of our fav, the dictionary. Vital, this is that which is absolutely necessary; it is essential. Then the other key term, principle; this is a fundamental truth or proposition that serves as the foundation for a system of belief or behaviour or for a chain of reasoning. Now you can clearly see that spirit of excellence is the absolutely, necessary foundation of belief and behaviour that drives one to perform spectacularly beyond measure. Principles, instructions, standards or a precept, whatever you call it; it all boils down to one general thing and that is God’s word. Let us not stop there because there is an important word I almost overlooked and that is "within". Within who? Within what? Within who? Within you believer, in you lives the Holy Spirit. Within what? Within the bible you find the holy words of God. The holy spirit, God's word and our obedience is that which work together and results in us producing excellence. Let me give you a revelation. If you obey God’s instructions then you will be excellent in all that you do. Proof? Look in God’s word at Joshua 1: 8 and you will see it says "study this book of instructions continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. ONLY THEN YOU WILL PROSPER AND SUCCEED IN ALL YOU DO. Let me show you somewhere else where it speaks about studying and obeying God’s word day and night and how it leads to remarkable success.

Psalms 1 (NIV)

1 Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers,

2 but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.

3 That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither— whatever they do prospers.

Here is a practical example in the very same word that conveys excellence through following God’s precepts. Yes another Psalm.

Psalm 119:99-100 New International Version (NIV)

99 I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.

100 I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts.

Listen, this is just hard truth! True success comes from seeking God’s truth and abiding by it. The writer has more insight than his teachers, come on now. The one who is teaching you? He is the student and he has a deeper understanding than the one that is giving him information to understand; now that is truly spectacular beyond measure. Furthermore, he has more understanding than his elders? That’s crazy, older people than you usually know everything about everything and all things. If we need to know and understand something then you go ask someone older than you right? You would ask Grandma, mom, father, the old lady/ old man in the church that speaks as if they seen it all? Yes ofcourse but this writer understand more than those older than him. How comes the writer has all these spectacular capabilities? Slide up and you see. Simply because he follows God’s word; this person seek, listened and obeyed. Want success in all that you do? Then follow that pattern. Seek God’s foundation and way for through his word, listen to what he has to say in regards your situation and obey his instructions given.

Excellence is God’s plan remember that!

In Philippians it says, fill your minds with those things that are good and deserve praise; things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely and honourable. Then another verse came to mind, it says "seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness and all things shall be added unto". These verses sparked my thoughts. I then begin to wonder, in what context should this be applied? Is it life? Yes, sure life but let me be more precise.

It should be applied to anything that I do and anywhere that I go. That Spirit of excellence must be reflected. It must linger in the air, cause concentration and stare. I should have excellence that inspires and drives. The essence so very contagious so much so that from me other springs of excellence derives. I should significantly add a substantial positive energy to the position that I hold and in the environment I stand. Whatever I do and wherever I do it there should be evidence of a creative and excellent God within me. I should leave an unforgettable impact of excellence.

Eliminate Lies

All pumped up but is there an actual way to do this? Would this ever work? Can these things even be achieved? Yes it can indeed. God will provide to you all things needed to do what he have called you to; he wants us to be excellent. So how to achieve this let us apply what was said in 1 John 5:14, "This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us and if we know that he hear us, whatsoever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we desired of him." Therefore let me tell you, be confident that he will make you excellent if you ask and not be fooled that wanting to reach excellence may be pride for it is not. Excellence is what he wants from us. Excellence is what he placed in us. We are overcomers, victors and surely strong in the Lord. We are the head and not the tale; above and not beneath. God wants good things for us and furthermore good things of/from us. Let his light shine through you.

Get up and Go!

Ok, let me go! I can do this he will make me do this. Wait, little old me can be greater than what I look in the mirror and see? Yes I can! Yes I will! Oh yes I shall! My actions and desires to pursue excellence will not be affected by anything else but God's ability to allow me to do it. Distractions, oppositions or limitations that I think I might be affected by will not disallow me from reaching what I should and that is pure excellence. Hold up, what about when I am low on energy, drive or passion? Can this really still happen? Yes, certainly for I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. Trust God and live in his will believer and know his design for your life is best! Know it is God not I.

Being a Jamaican, Christian YouTuber posting christian content is rare, there is not many of us. To take on this task I must admit is a bit scary for me. Before starting I was fearful but God told me to be strong and courageous in him. I thought what if it is not successful and then he said follow his instructions and it will be. This and every blog post I make is not just a bunch of words put together to sound good but it is that which was revealed to me by God.
